Managers/Coaches

Sandy Plains Park

  1. Managers and/or coaches of the last game or practice are required to pull the bases, place next to the fence or in the dugout, and install base anchor plugs with top of plug below ground level. This allows county employees, as well as park volunteers to do a better job of maintaining the fields with less damage to the bases. It also makes it much easier for you and your fellow coaches to place your bases. Remember to do your part.

  2. To lift stuck magnetic base anchor plates, get the 2 cutting mattocks from the garage tool area, slide flat ends under magnetic area until it touches metal post and rock to lift anchor. This is much easier than fighting or shoveling the anchor and does not damage anchor socket in the ground.

  3. The dark green plastic vertical bars mounted to the fences are to help you spot where the base anchors are. The poles are not lined up square with first/third base, but rather follow a line from the pole through the center of first/third base to find the base anchor for second base. First and third are relatively easy to find, with second being occasionally troublesome. The line from first/third to second is not 90 degrees from the fence but angled slightly towards the outfield.

  4. All fields have base anchors at 55’, 60’ and 65’ per association rules.
    Slow pitch base distances: 6/8 @ 55’ 10/12 @ 60’ 14up @ 65.
    Fast pitch base distances: 10u @ 55’ 12up @ 60’
Please check to see that the bases are in the proper place for your age group before beginning your game.
Permanent pitching rubbers are at 40’, 46’ and on fields 1, 2 and 4, 50’. Fields 2 and 3 are equipped with removable pitching rubber anchors at 35’ for when the need arises. The removable pitching rubber is stored in the equipment room at the field 2 score box stand.

  5. Please place the field rakes back in dugouts with the loop over the handle for safety reasons when you finish using them.

  6. Have your team clean out all trash and equipment from dugout before you leave the field. Trash cans are provided in each dugout as well as various convenient locations throughout the park.

  7. Please monitor your team during practices and warm ups. We’ve had several instances during the last couple of seasons with the restrooms having toilet paper wads thrown against the ceiling, paper towels strewn about and toilet paper rolls thrown into toilets.

  8. Remember, the majority of the equipment and a great portion of our facilities have been paid for by the Sandy Plains Softball Association and maintained by SPSA volunteers. The better job we do of taking care of our equipment and our facilities helps to keep our costs as low as possible and keep our park a safe, well equipped and fun place to play.

Bells Ferry Park

SPSA intends to operate and manage Bells Ferry Park with the same high standards that we operate Sandy Plains Park. As we go through this challenging transition, please bear with us for any errors or omissions. As always, we take your comments and suggestions seriously and urge you to contact the appropriate board member if you have any comments, questions or concerns.

  7. The Lights at Bells Ferry Park are operated by manual switches. F1 & F2 switches are on a green box adjacent to the main concession stand. F3 & F4 switches are on a green box adjacent to the small F3/F4 concession stand. Please turn off all field lights after your practices/games if no other teams are waiting for the field.
